More Africa Miracles Print E-mail

 September 1, 2010

So, I told you that I wanted to share some more Africa miracles with you right?  Well, let me start out with the one with God doing a modern day miracle multiplying our backpacks.  We had 5000 children that had been picked by the local churches there for us to serve while we were there, but more than double that many children actually came to the events.  It was truly heart breaking to see the kids cry because they were not on the list.  It was almost more than we could handle at times, but God saw our aching hearts and “somehow” at the end of the third event when we had gone through the 5000 on the list, there was still a huge pile of backpacks in the back of the room, all with personal care items.  We looked at that stack all day and kept commenting how it was not diminishing and laughed how God was multiplying them – well, He did!!  We were able to give the hundreds of volunteers each a backpack for their children, we had enough for one of the local school’s tennis team and enough for the orphanages’ children.  We also had enough backpacks to give 51 autistic and mentally handicapped kids in a nearby home as well as children with AIDS who were in line for a whole day and then came back again the next day, but  were not on the list.  God heard our aching hearts.  Thank you Lord!!  Again he did abundantly above what we could ask or think.  How big is the God we serve!! Our theme was “Feeding the 5,000”and God indeed multiplied and was true to His words! It was indeed a modern day miracle!

While in Nairobi we were blessed to go visit a local orphanage and visit the 32 children there and their 4 caretakers.  Each one stood up and told us their name and what they wanted to be when they grew up.  Wow what aspirations they had – they were determined not to let their present situation hold them back.  We were so inspired.  It wasn’t until after we left that we found out the youngest boy, who was now 4, was found in a dumpster at the age of 2, unable to walk, probably due to malnutrition.  And one of the beautiful girls that we had noticed was missing a few fingers we found out was due to her mom setting her on fire.  Can you even imagine?  What survivors and wonderful blessings of joy they were and such an encouragement to us.  We had brought them little stuffed animals that a sweet little girl from Dallas has sent with us and the children were so blessed.  It was such a joy to know that God had multiplied our backpacks so we could give those to them as well.

Blog for Susie, August 28, 2010:

I am sorry it’s been so long since I’ve updated my blog.  Life has been extremely busy with all the ways God has been blessing us.  We were blessed in June to partner with Feed the Children to distribute 3200 boxes of food and personal care products to the homeless shelters and poor families in South Dallas near Fair Park and West Dallas.  Praise God 40 were saved on that day! We also just got back last month from Nairobi, Kenya where we are able to see God do abundantly above all we could ask or think.  We served 5000 children there giving them food, drink, backpacks, T-shirts, washcloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap.  We also washed 10,000 feet and put on new socks and shoes.  What an amazing God we serve!  Wow, the miracles were more than we could count.  We saw over 4,000 people accept Christ, along with our driver for the week, and I even was blessed to lead the gentlemen beside me to Christ on the flight from Amsterdam to Nairobi.  The miracles started way before we left Dallas.  The Lord worked in his normal fashion, causing us to live by faith and not sight.  We definitely had some sleepless nights wondering how in the world eight women from the Dallas area were going to get across the world (financially).  But God showed up as He always does.  He made the impossible possible allowing us to fit 5000 pair of socks in our “extra” luggage, which Buckner so graciously donated.  He provided the funds for all these goods, which at times seemed like an impossible task.  God not only showed up but He showed off!!  Life there is nothing like the life we live.  We are so blessed.  The items don’t seem like much to us here, but there these items like toothbrush and toothpaste allowed kids that have never had one to brush their teeth.  The backpacks allowed children to carry their books in something other than paper bags.  Many of these kids had no shoes and the ones they had more worn than you could imagine.  Praise God that we got to be a part of helping these children and sharing the gospel with them while meeting their physical needs.  I want to keep you coming back so I’m not going to share all the miracles in one blog J I’ll be back soon to share some more…off to go work on the fundraiser for the Christmas Homeless Party.  The fundraiser this year will be October 2nd at the Fairmount 6:00-9:30 so don’t miss out on getting a ticket!

Happy Easter to all and thank you for all your help today. We had more than 60 volunteers who showed up today and they expressed their gratefulness for the opportunity of serving.

It was beautiful to see our volunteers speaking to the homeless one on one all over the Bridge courtyard. Lives have been changed. "Adopt a Friend" was our theme and volunteers really took it to heart.

My new  friend at the Bridge is Al an elderly man who needed a bed at night so I went and asked Mike (the supervisor in charge) for a bed. He asked me why Al? I said because I just adopted him as my friend. I told him that was our theme for the day, "Adopt a Friend" and do something to help that friend. He said, okay!

I am going back there on Easter Sunday afternoon and checked whether they gave my new friend Al, a bed where he could lay at night.

I stayed at the Bridge till past 12 noon and while talking to an elderly disabled man, a woman named

Here's another song that Robin Kochis gave us the permission to use on this site, especially on Susie's Corner. The lyric speaks so perfectly about Susie and of our heart.
